Fear of Falling in Elderly
Falls is one of the leading causes of injury for the elderly population ages 65 and older. Base on the National Institute of Health in the USA, more than one third of persons older than 65 fall each year and it’s the leading cause of mobility and disability. Based on the literature among people how fell there is a high percentage (40 – 73%) who have a fear of falling (Abyad & Hammami, 2017) Post fall syndrome has psychological consequences on the elderly that expand to the functional level decreasing the overall quality of life. • List the steps to measure hearing instrument performance using the Aurical HIT unit in Otosuite.
• Discuss methods of verification for key hearing aid features like frequency lowering.
• Describe options for advanced measurement techniques such as speech mapping and freestyle in Otosuite PMM.

She is Clinical Faculty at School of Audiology and Speech Sciences – University of British Columbia, President of Balance and Dizziness and Director of the Canadian Academy of Audiology. She is the owner of the Audio-Vestibular Clinic in Vancouver, where she offers comprehensive vestibular testing and vestibular rehabilitation. She mentors Audiologists and Physiotherapists who seek specialization in the Vestibular field. She has worked in a variety of settings, including St. Paul’s Hospital (Vancouver), the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital (London, England) and public and private practices in Brazil.

Dr. H. Gustav Mueller holds faculty positions with Vanderbilt University, the University of Northern Colorado and Rush University. He is a consultant for WSAudiology and Contributing Editor for AudiologyOnline, where he has the monthly column “20Q With Gus.” Dr. Mueller is a Founder of the American Academy of Audiology and a Fellow of the American Speech and Hearing Association. He has co-authored over ten books on hearing aids and hearing aid fitting, including the recent three-volume Modern Hearing Aids series, and the clinical text on Speech Mapping and Probe Microphone Measures. Gus is the co-founder of the popular website www.earTunes.com, and resides on a tropic North Dakota island, just outside the city of Bismarck.
