Course introduction:
The ICS Impulse oculomotor and positional modules allow you to measure all dimensions of eye movement (horizontal, vertical and torsional) providing a more accurate diagnosis of vestibular patients. The gaze test measures any eye movement generated when maintaining gaze at various angles. The static positional test identifies and records any eye movements resulting from a patient’s head or head and body being placed in several static positions. Both central and peripheral lesions can cause extra eye movements when performing these tests. During this presentation both the testing protocol as well as interpretation of these tests will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this eseminar the participants will be able to:
- Explain the importance of assessing static gaze stabilization as part of the vestibular test battery
- Identify the head and eye positions for obtaining reliable recordings with and without fixation
- Describe the procedure to collect traces when performing these tests
- Interpret the collected traces
- Report results in a meaningful way to assist with the differential diagnosis of the patient
