Dr. Chong Foong Yen (Ph.D.) is a senior lecturer at the Audiology Programme, Centre for Rehabilitation & Special Needs Studies (iCaRehab), Faculty of Health Sciences (FSK), the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia – UKM). Dr. Chong currently teaches hearing amplification and psychoacoustics courses at the Audiology Program, FSK, UKM, a place close to her heart where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Audiology (Hons.).

Dr. Chong obtained her Ph.D. in 2016 and M.Sc. in 2010 in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada. In her doctoral studies, Dr. Chong examined the acoustic and perceptual effects of digital noise reduction systems in hearing aids on speech sounds. Dr. Chong’s passion for hearing–aid amplification and speech acoustics remains her research interest. Her current research projects entail the development of speech perception test materials, particularly for Mandarin speakers in Malaysia, and the adaptation of questionnaires as outcome assessment tools for validating hearing amplification devices. In addition, she is also passionate about advocating the use of real-ear-measurement to verify hearing aids and has been invited as a speaker for several workshops, webinars, and masterclasses.
