Course introduction:
Coming to terms with any head trauma can be a daunting and emotional experience. But when a patient has ongoing balance issues as a result, how do you —the clinician — identify and support these challenges?
This seminar will look at common vestibular injuries with associated mTBI and the mechanisms behind them, the complex nature and needs of these patients, and the possible test protocols and markers for certain assessment needs. Finally, there will be a focus on these patients’ specific counseling and vestibular rehabilitation needs and how clinicians can implement a patient-focused rehabilitation program.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this eseminar the participants will be able to:
- Identify common vestibular disorders associated with head trauma and the mechanisms behind them.
- Discuss the complex nature of a patient presenting with both a mTBI and vestibular disorders.
- Review and evaluate vestibular assessment strangles and their usefulness.
- Implement a dedicated and personal vestibular rehabilitation plan for this patient cohort.
