With an increase in attendance of almost 200% from 2018, the latest Center of Excellence hearing aid verification seminar, held June 12 – 14, 2019 in Wroclaw, Poland, proved beyond a doubt that people want to learn more about the benefits of the Aurical and hearing aid fitting. This seminar, hosted in collaboration with the local partner Medicus, provided hands-on training in an international setting.

Mariana Roslyng-Jensen and Anuu Priya (Natus Medical Incorporated) led the training efforts during this three day seminar. The attendees were Aurical customers, hoping to get a more in-depth knowledge of how simple the Aurical is to use, and the benefits it can create for the patient.

“We want people to be able to perform all the tests when they are finished with this training. It’s what they need,” says Anders Bjerg, International Sales Director. “It’s not just a theoretical training.”
This is the second year the seminar has been held at the private hospital facility owned by Medicus. Registration fee of 200€ included logistical on-site assistance from Medicus, as well as daily lunches and a large welcome dinner. Training certificates are provided once the seminar has been completed.

Event Details
Over The Counter (OTC) Hearing Aids were approved and introduced in the USA in October, 2022. The initial arguments to allow OTC focused on affordability and access. Although access has been readily addressed, affordability is still a significant issue. Further, the hearing aid stigma is still a significant impediment to large scale acceptance. Beck & Harvey noted that unless stigma due to cosmetic issues was addressed, acceptance would remain impeded. In this presentation we examine the impact of OTC, the state of the prescription market, and new innovations which address the three main impediments to acceptance.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this seminar the participants will be able to:
- Name the three primary impediments to OTC success.
- Recite the standard annual growth rate of the prescription marketplace.
- Name one product which addresses all three impediments,
- Discuss who is a candidate for OTC products (in the USA).
- Name two red-flags from the FDA which mandate referral to an MD.
