Course introduction:
People with intellectual disabilities face inequalities in accessing high quality healthcare, and audiology is no exception. As research builds in optimising care for this population, this presentation focuses on how hearing assessment could be modified and tailored to the individual needs of adults and children with intellectual disabilities.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this seminar the participants will be able to:
• Describe impacts of modifications to behavioural hearing assessments for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
• Quantify impacts that syndromes associated with intellectual disabilities have on auditory electrophysiological measures.
• List “reasonable adjustments” that can be made to audiological care for individuals with intellectual disabilities that can support access to care.

  • Dr. Siobhan Brennan

    Dr. Siobhan Brennan

    Dr. Siobhan Brennan is currently an Audiology Lecturer at Manchester Centre for Audiology and Deafness, University of Manchester UK and a Lead Clinical Scientist at the Regional Department of Neurotology, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, UK. Siobhan has enjoyed a varied career specializing in auditory electrophysiology and Audiological care for individuals with intellectual impairment. In addition to clinical, research and educational roles, she has chaired groups focused on improving practice including the Hearing and Learning Disabilities special interest group the British Society of Audiology Electrophysiology Special Interest Group. She is a member of the European Federation of Audiology Societies Working Group on Audiology and Intellectual Disability and the British Society of Audiology Cognition and Hearing Special Interest Group.
