Event Details

Vestibular complaints are often encountered in general clinical practice by many different health professionals. Although these professionals might share different backgrounds (e.g. neurology, otorhinolaryngology, audiovestibular medicine, physiotherapy), having a common background of knowledge and skills on vestibular topics is imperative, in order to give the best treatment to the patients. This course will focus on the main vestibular topics, necessary to set the first steps to become a vestibular expert.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this seminar the participants will be able to:
• Describe basic anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system
• Describe how to differentiate central and peripheral vestibular disorders
• Describe the background of vestibular laboratory testing
• Describe how to recognize functional symptoms in vestibular patients
• Recognize common pitfalls and misconceptions when dealing with vestibular patients

  • Dr. Raymond van der Berg

    Dr. Raymond van der Berg

    MD, PhD

    Raymond van de Berg was born on September 5th 1984 in Geldrop, The Netherlands. He studied Medicine at the University of Maastricht from 2002 until 2008. Directly after graduation he started his residency in Otorhinolaryngology started at the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery in Maastricht until 2013. He currently works as an Associate Professor and ENT-surgeon at Maastricht University Medical Center, with a special interest in vestibular disorders. His research mainly focusses on the vestibular implant, bilateral vestibulopathy and vestibular diagnostics. He obtained his PhD (in medicine) cum laude, which won several scientific prizes. He is also head of the Department of Audiology, Head of the Vestibular Department and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Physics in Tomsk, Russia.
